WEEK-END TRAVEL BOOKINGS HEAVY
Most passenger services are heavily booked for this week-end because of the start of the school holidays.
The Union Steam Ship Company reported yesterday that passenger space on the interisland steamer express to Wellington was heavily booked for this evening but there was a - little accommodation left on , the daylight sailing on Saturevening service on Sun- ' day is heavily booked, but there is accommodation on ■ the daylight sailing on Tues- - day, August 26. Space for cars ; is heavily booked for today’s i sailing, and for the sailings i on Saturday and Sunday, but i there is still space for cars on ; August 26. Extra bus services will run
to Nelson and Picton at the week-end, and the company is expected to be very busy catering for the extra traffic, the Christchurch manager of Newman Brothers, Ltd (Mr A M. Garnett) reported. The traffic manager of Midland Motorways Services. Ltd, (Mr T. N. Direen) said that extra coaches would be put on the company’s Christchurch to Dunedin service to cater for the traffic tomorrow evening. Although no extra services are scheduled, the railways will add units to rail-cars and extra carriages to trains this week-end.
