SCHOOL SITE

Petitions To Be Circulated

A petition calling for the removal of the urban boundary fence from the original site selected for a new intermediate school in Withells Road, Avonhead, is to be circulated soon among householders in the area.

The Waimairi County Council rejected the site, owned by the Ministry of Works, and put forward a site across the road as a substitute. Critics of the new site have said it would cost taxpayers another $lOO,OOO. Mr A. J. Lucas, chairman of a petitioning committee set up last month, said that he believed most people in the area were opposed to the purchase of another site instead of using the Ministry of Works site, which could simply be transferred to the Education Department When filled the petition will be handed to the Canterbury Education Board to be sent with a covering letter to the Waimairi County Council.
