GOLF ROUND-UP Kendall Crashes In 2nd Round

The first-round leader, T. Kendall, of New Zealand, played badly in the second round of the Queensland open golf championship yesterday, adding a five-over-par 78 to his round of 68 on Thursday.
Kendall is now on 146, eight strokes behind the leader in the 72-hole $5OOO tournament, T. J. Woolbank, of New South Wales. The New Zealander struck trouble on the eighth hole where he drove out of bounds and returned an outward score of 40. Woolbank shot a course record of 66 yesterday, giving him a total of 138. In equal second place, on 139, are J. Dyer (72-67), R. Vines (70-69), and C. Johnston (70-69). W. J. Godfrey and B. T. Boys lead the New Zealand contingent in equal ninth place on 142. Yesterday Godfrey had a 69 and Boys 71. The scores of other New Zealand players were: J. M. Lister 71-74, D. Clark 74-73, R. McDonald 81-73, and K. Foxton 79-77. Miss Booth Third The New Zealand international, Miss H. Booth, and her Melbourne partner, Mrs J. Law, finished third in the 36-hole Victorian women’s foursome championship at Melbourne yesterday. They had rounds of 81 and 87—18 over par—to finish 12 strokes behind the winners and defending champions, Miss B. Coulson, an Australian international, and the 19-year-old Miss A. Williams. Miss- Booth and Mrs Law were only four strokes behind the winning pair after the morning round. In the afternoon, they dropped five strokes in the' first two holes. Snead Holds Lead
The veteran American golfer, S. Snead, fired a five-under-par 67 to take the first round lead in the $111,600 Canadian Open championship at Montreal. Snead, who has
won the title three times, was one stroke ahead of a fellow American, C. Evans. Among a group of seven golfers on 69 were the British Open champion, A. Jacklin, and R. de Vicenzo, of Argentina. Ejght players were one stroke further back, on 70—two under par—and 15 .were on 71. R. J. Charles, of New Zealand, the defending champion, was in a group on 71. Charles said his long game was poor —“slicing my drives to the left and in the rough all day.” Two Shoot 65s T. Wilcox and R. Mitchell, who had not played a competitive round bn the huge Firestone Country Club course before, shot five-under-par 65s to lead the first round of the $111,600 American golf classic at Akron, Ohio. They were followed by the defending champion, J. Nicklaus, who was on 66, while four players were grouped at 67—8. Green, T. Nieporte, S. Reid, and R. Floyd.
