Hawke’s Bay Favoured

<N.Z. Press Association) NAPIER,

With three wins in three matches this season, including defeats of Counties and Auckland, Hawke’s Bay will start favourite against Wairarapa today in its first defence of the Ranfurly Shield for the 1969 season. Indications earlier this season were that the shield holder was struggling ’to recapture the form which helped it retain the trophy in 14 previous matches of the last two years

Hawke’s Bay’s first match of the season, against Wairarapa on June 2, brought a close win for Bay, 17-14, a surprising feature being Wairarapa’s strong finish.
