Agricultural Society President Re-elected
Mr J, H. Rutherford, of Feilding, was re-elected for his third term as president at the recent annual general meeting of the Royal Agricultural Society of New Zealand. Mr Rutherford was also appointed the society’s delegate to the bi-annual conference of the Royal Agricultural Society of the Commonwealth, which will be held in Nairobi, Kenya, on September 29 and 30.
Mr D. M. MacDonald, of Dannevirke, was elected vicepresident in a closely contested postal ballot with Mr J. E. Brunton, of Dunedin. A ballot was also held for the national executive of the society and resulted in the following being elected: Messrs J. Stevenson, Orini,
Waikato; R. F. Hutchinson, Manutuke, Gisborne; C. E. Nairn, Omakere, Hawke’s Bay; W. J. MacLeod, Feilding; D. L. Ensor, Canterbury; E. W. Sadlier, Woodlands, Southland; and treasurer, Mr C. M. Croucher, of Palmerston North.
The society will be giving its main attention this year to the staging of a Royal Show at Invercargill from December 9 to 11, and a national winter exhibition in 1970, the venue of which has not yet been agreed upon.
Representatives of livestock breed societies from throughout New Zealand gathered in Wellington in early July. The breed societies are all affiliated with the Royal Agricultural Society and represents goats, sheep and cattle (beef and dairy) interests.
The election for the executive resulted as follows: Messrs J. H. Rutherford, Feilding (president); C. M. Croucher, Palmerston North; F. W. Arnold, Tuakau, Auckland; D. L. Ensor, Canterbury; D. M. MacDonald, Dannevirke; D. L. Hutchinson, Gisborne; J. Stevenson, Waikato; H. M. Studholme, Christchurch; T. J. Fourneau, Hawke’s Bay; C. E. Nairn, Omakere, Hawke’s Bay; and W. J. MacLeod, Feilding.
