FAIR LAW BEATEN
(N.Z. Preet Association) SYDNEY. The New Zealand sprinter. Fair Law, made a disappointing Australian debut when he finished tenth of 11 in the Roselle Welter Handicap (4f), at Canterbury. Top-weight with 10-7, Fair Law, ridden by the Aboriginal jockey, D. McCarthy, never looked likely. Before the race Fair Law looked burly and might do better under a lighter weight. The race was won by Domino King. Earlier in the programme the New Zealand-bred two-year-olds caused upsets in the first two divisions of the Ulyfield Maiden Handicap. The winners were Portable fAlcimedes—Fantina II) and The Goods (Agricola—Star of Palestine). The Goods gave the trainer, T. J. Smith, his 100th victory of the season. Portable, a bay colt, bought for $15,000 at Trentham, was having his second start. The Goods, a filly, also having her second start, was bought for $2500 at Trentham.
