FAULT IN BRAKES
Cars To Be Recalled (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) LOS ANGLES, July 6. Toyota Motor Sales, the American subsidiary of Toyota Motor Company of Japan, 'said yesterday that it planned to recall about 55,000 cars to replace a faulty brake tube Owners of 1966, 1967 and 1968 Coronas would be told by letter this month to take their cars to Toyota dealers for tree replacement of the part, a spokesman said.
Some brake tubes in Corona models of those years were plated with solder and others with zinc, the spokesman said. Some solder-plated tubes have corroded, and will be replaced With zinc-plated tubes. Corrosion in the five-foot section of brake fluid tubing has caused some cases of brake failure in Japan, but no such problem has yet been reported in the United States About half the 55,000 cars are expected to need tube replacement, and mechanics have estimated that replace ment will take about an hour a car, the spokesman said.
