Pledge Given By Rumania

Rumania today vowed to develop her relationships with all States, irrespective of their politics, in what appeared to be a reasoned defence of its invitation to President Nixon to visit Bucharest early next month.
The Communist daily newspaper, “Scinteia,” published a 2000-word editorial—clearly with full top-level party approval—pledging Rumania to continue her role liaison between the Communist and non-Communist worlds.
Today’s statement was made after a week of official silence from Moscow about Mr Nixon’s visit, and growing doubts about a planned visit to Bucharest by the Soviet Union leadership to sign a new 20-year treaty of alliance. There seems to be increasing support for the belief that the Russian leaders have put off their visit as a sign of displeasure with Mr Nixon’s visit to Rumania.
