N.Z.E.I. Ball Held In Christchurch
About 730 guests attended the North Canter* bury branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute’s sixteenth annual ball at the Winter Garden last evening. The new approach to mathematics was the theme of the decorations in recognition of the position of the president (Mr E. N. Penlington), who is mathematics adviser to schools. Heaton Intermediate pupils constructed numerous multicoloured geometric shapes which were displayed In the ballroom. Conical shapes held the candles on the supper tables. Posters depicting school life surrounded the alcoves and many floral arrangements and coloured balloons completed the scene. Members of the committee who organised the ball were: —chairman, Mr B. R. McMillan, superintendent of education, Southern regional office, and Mrs McMillan; Mr J. Dwyer, national president of the N.Z.E.1., and Mrs Dwyer; Mr E. Simmons, national secretary of the N.Z.E.1., and Mrs Simmonds; Mr B. J. Wilson, district senior inspector of schools, and Mrs Wilson; Dr J. F. Mann, principal of Christchurch Teachers' College, and Mrs Mann; Professor P. Lawrence, professor of education at the University of Canterbury, and Mrs Lawrence; Professor H. Field, Christchurch Teachers* College council, and Mrs Field; Mr A A Pullar, president of the North Canterbury Primary School Headmasters’ Association, and Mrs Pullar; Mr M. Carson, a member of the national executive of the N.Z.E.1., and Mrs Carson; Mt W. P. Spencer, secretary- ' manager of the Canterbury Education Board, and Mrs Spencer; Mr G. Maister, senior vice-president of the North Canterbury branch oi the N.Z.E.1., and Mrs Maister; Mr D. Stewart, junior vice president of the branch, and Mrs Stewart; Mr A. L.
