OVERSEAS TRADING
STONEY After a weak start to trading this morning the Sydney market gradually strengthened during the afternoon to present a rather confusing pattern at the close. In the mining sector losses marginally outnumbered gains, while in the Industrials gains slightly outnumbered losses. In the oils, however, gains outnumbered losses by more than two to one. Bright Berformers in the mining were ■R.A.. which added a further 50c to close at 1800 c, and Hamersley, which gained 20c to close firm at 1200 c. Most interest centred round the oils sector, in which a number of small gains were registered. The new listing, Murumba, which is surrounded by a spate of take-over rumours, gained 2c to close at 9c, while the options put on Ic. to close at 4c. B.H.P. continued to disappoint and lost 10c, closing at 1460 c after touching 1450 c. In early trading. Sales.—Assoc. Min.. 720; B.H. Sth, 390; Cleveland Tin, 75c; Cons. Gold, 860; Cons. MELBOURNE The Melbourne Stock Market edged upwards yesterday but the movement was more diffident on light trading and in the mining and oil section rises were balanced by falls. Hamersley pushed back to 1200 c with a rise of 40c and C.R.A. reached 1800 c with a rise of 50c. Vam Western Mining, and Kathleen Investments were steady, however, while New Broken Hill, Peko Wallsend and Great Boulder eased. North Kalgurli was up 16c to 806 c.
