MOVE IN STRIKE

Suspension Lifted Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 18. The suspension facing 15,000 Auckland building workers was lifted by their employers today in the hope that the electricians’ strike would be settled. The workers have called off their stop-work meeting, planned for Thursday. This was the outcome of a meeting today between the Auckland Master Builders’ Association and the Auckland Trades Council. After the meeting both parties released a statement in which they gave their reasons for withdrawing proposed actions. The striking electricians are claiming a ruling wage increase to $1.50 an hour. The employers offered 51.25 and later withdrew the offer because they considered it had not been appreciated. The parties directly involved in the strike have been discussing a proposal from the Minister of Labour (Mr Shand), who is hopeful that a formula will be reached for a return to work. Neither the Minister nor the parties have divulged the terms of the proposal.
