CHEMISTS’ AWARD

Late-Close Day Changed (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 13. Chemists’ shops may now close on Friday nights and open on Thursday or other late nights under the same provisions as other retail shops in New Zealand. This is one of the provisions of a new award from the Court of Arbitration. The award is for retail chemists’ assistants.

Pay increases of up to $2 weekly are included. The top increase goes to managers and relieving managers, with $1.75 extra for qualified assistants and $1.25 for unqualified assistants. Shop assistants, storemen and packers have also been given pay increases.

The award is retrospective to April 28.
