Purchases For ' Canterbury I j i A polled Hereford buH and ’ five heifers have been bought ' In Tasmania by Mr W. M. Gilbert, of Springston, for his , “Coldstream” stud. The bull is a rising two- . year-old bred by the Valmont' stud of L. A. Stuart Pty. Ltd. Named Valmont Image, it was first in the under-12-months ' ■class at the Tasmanian Na- ' tiomri and Royal Shows last i year. He was also junior 'Champion at the Tasmanian ' Royal Show. His sire, Brewarrana ■ Argosy, was the second top- ■ .priced bull of all breeds at the 1965 Sydney Royal Sohw sales. He realised $6300. His stock have an excellent show •record in Tasmania. Mr Gilbert bought two heifers from the same stud. One of them was reserve champion female at the 1968 Tasmanlan Royal Show. Both heifers were to be mated before being exported. Three rising heifers were bought privately from Mr B. Walls, of “Lakehouse” stud, Creasy. They are of “Deepfields" breeding, a 1 Strong bloodline in Australian ! polled Herefords. The importation of the > cattle is being arranged by i the stud stock departments of Wright, Stepehnson and 1 Company and the New Zea-1 land Farmers’ Co-operative Association of Canterbury, in association with the Farmers’ Stud Stock and Land Com-: P«ny._
