Parking In North Hagley

Sir, —The photograph in yesterday morning’s issue of cars parked in a “No Parking” area in Hagley Park brings my question: what is the use of a dozen or so welldesigned, well-placed signs if this is all the notice motorists are taking of them? Were parking tickets issued to these owners?—Yours, etc., D.E.M. May 28, 1969. [The City Council’s Director of Reserves (Mr H. G.Gilpin) replies: “The area in Hagley Park referred to has been opened up to motorists on a trial basis. During this period traffic patrols are being rostered for the area and inspections are made daily. Co-operation from the public using this area during the trial period is a necessary ingredient for the formulation of a final policy in this matter.”)
