DOMESTIC WORK

Reply To Mr Shand (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 9. The Minister of Labour (Mr Shand) erred in imagining that the employment of women in domestic work would be jeopardised by the introduction of equal pay, the president of the Council of Equal Pay and Opportunity (Mrs R. M. King) said in a statement today. Mrs King was replying to a statement made on Friday by Mr Shand in answer to a question in Parliament. She said that equal pay now existed in licensed hotels for women workers, who received $31.65 per week. In motels and private hotels, where equal pay did not prevail, women workers received $23.74 a week.
