Cinema Posters
Sir ,—I am saddened by the advance publicity in our city —on a large poster—for a coming movie. “Who cares about a 35-year-old virgin!” it says. There will be many a woman in our city who will read that and be hurt by the implications of it, for it has pretty rotten undertones. It hurt me. This is not to blame the copy-writer, for he is a part of us all. How I hate us when we fall below our decent selves! Perhaps the words of Lincoln are pertinent: “T am sorry for the man who can’t feel the whip when it is laid on the other man’s back.” —Yours, etc., GEORGE SWEET. June 5, 1969.
