Rugby Broadcasts
Sir,—How ridiculous for the N.Z.B.C. to interrupt the Wales-Otago Rugby game to give the news, which had already been repeated several times during the day! Wales scored twice during the time taken to give the repeat, which surely could have been held until after the game. We have had this and the weather forecast put across when other international sides have been here, and in order to get this stupid interruption stopped I trust other Rugby fans throughout the country will support me in taking this matter up with the N.Z.B.C. and the Minister concerned. Surely a little common sense can be used to give a better service to the large following of our national game.—Yours, etc., A.F. June 5, 1969.
[Mr J. Robertson, radio manager in Christchurch for the New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation, replies: “There are no interruptions to Saturday games, and weather forecasts are held until Rugby broadcasts conclude. Because we have a responsibility to regular afternoon listeners and because of the irregularity of occasional midweek games, news is broadcast at the norma! time. It was simply bad luck that Wales scored twice in such a short period of time last Wednesday.”]
