ESCORT V 6
A new high-performance version of the Ford Escort is now being sold in Britain by the Crayford company. Called the Escort Eliminator, it is powered by the 3-litre V 6 Zodiac engine, is sold with a full Ford warranty, and costs a British buyer about $3OOO. In order to fit the bigger engine into the Escort the front bulkbead is modified, and this reduces front-seat legroom slightly. The car has a top speed of about 118 m.p.h., and will accelerate from rest to 60 m.p.h. in 7.6 seconds, compared with 8.7 sec. for an Escort Twin Cam. The car’s 0 to 100 m.p.h. acceleration time is said to be about seven seconds faster than an Escort Twin Cam, which will reach 100 m.p.h. in about 30sec. Crayford has also announced a racing model of the Eliminator. It has several fibreglass panels, modified suspension, special wheels, and a modified fuel-injection Zodiac engine.
