HIGH SPEED CRAFT

Big Jet Units Supplied

Two pairs of jet propulsion units to be powered by gas turbines in a high-speed boat being developed in the United States have been made Iby the Christchurch firm of C. W. F. Hamilton Marine, Ltd.

i The units will be used in an Aquarius craft, designed to cruise at 45 knots, with a top speed of 60 knots. Scale model tests indicate greater economies on comparable hydrofoil or hovercraft models. The Aquarius comprises a central hull and cabin, mounted above two outboard floats. The main hull can be raised by hydraulic rams to "fly” at operating speeds. Two 650 h.p. gas turbines, geared to the jet units, are located in each of the outboard hulls.
