Court Buildings

Sir,—l hear from an informed source that the Ministry of Works has prepared tentative plans for the new Court buildings in Christchurch. I hear also that these plans may require the removal of nearly all of the riverbank and trees between Armagh and Chester Streets.

1 should be pleased to know whether the Ministry of Works, in fact intends this, because if it does, I, for one, am very much opposed to it —Yours, etc., URBS. May 14, 1969.

[Mr P. L. Laipg, the Commissioner of Works, replies: "The tentative plans for the new court buildings are not sufficiently developed at this stage for the matter to be discussed, A study is being made regarding the extent to which the site can be used for the new buildings. The department intends to retain the river bank and trees between Armagh and Chester Streets to the maximum extent possible.”]
