BINS FOR LITTER

Advertising Allowed

An offer to supply and maintain litter bins in return for advertising rights on two sides of the bins was agreed to in principle by the City Council on Monday evening. The by-laws committee, reporting on an offer made by Mr A. F. Hobbs, of Sumner, about a year ago, said council engineers had inspected a sample bin and made suggestions for improvements. His scheme was that the bins would have the side nearest the footpath free for use by r the council to display to keep-the-city-clean campaign motto or warnings of the penalties under the Litter Act. The side nearest the road would be clear, and Mr Hobbs would have sole advertising rights on the other sides. The committee said it had no objection to advertising on litter bins. The City Engineer (Mr P. G. Scoular) would report on the number of bins: required and their siting before any agreement was! drafted.
