Record Emigration Last Year
A record peace-time emigration of 11,000 people is shown in the migration figures for the year ended March, 1969, released last week by the Government Statistician (Mr J. V. T. Baker). During the year 485,403 people arrived in New Zealand and 496,584 left. New
Zealand, the difference of 11,181 representing net emigration. In 1967-68—the first year since the Second World War when departures exceeded arrivals—net emigration totalled 10,596. In 196667 net immigration totalled 14,004. Arrivals and departures in the last three years were as follows:
