Air Raid On Villages

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) ORLU (Biafra), May 15. Ten people were killed and 39 were injured when two Nigerian jet aircraft machinegunned villages 15 miles north-west of Umuahia, according to hospital sources in Orlu. Eye-witnesses say that the attack, just after noon yesterday, was concentrated on the busy Orlu-Umuahia highway. Machine-gun, cannon and rocket fire was concentrated on both sides of the road over a distance of two miles. Two village markets close to the road came under attack during the 20-minute raid, after which the planes, flying at tree-top level, headed south-east.

The hospital sources say six people died during the attack and four others while undergoing treatment.
