SALVATION ARMY POST

Officer To Retire

Lieutenant-Colonel L. Millar, of Christchurch, who has been an officer in the Salvation Army for 40 years and publicity officer for the Canterbury and Westland division for the last 11 years, will retire. He and his wife will be bidden farewell at a special service in the Salvation Army Citadel, Victoria Square, on May 29 at 8 p.m.

The gathering will be led by the chief secretary of the Salvation Army in New Zealand (Colonel A. E. Albiston) and speakers will include the Deputy-Mayor (Mr H. P. Smith), the general secretary of the National Council of Churches (the Rev. D. M. Taylor), and the divisional commander of the Salvation Army (Lieutenant-Colonel S. A. Smith). After receiving his training in Wellington in 1928, Lieu-tenant-Colonel Millar was commissioned in Winton, Southland. Since then he has served in Cromwell, Green Island, Riverton, Kilbirnie, Woodville. Nelson, Greymouth, Linwood. Wellington South, Hastings, Gisborne, Ashburton, and Palmerston North. Mrs Millar trained in 1926 and the couple were married in 1931.
