The New Zealand under-23 Rugby league team beat a combined Sydney second division side 11-7 in the third and last match of its short tour, at Wentworthville. Two penalty goals by the New Zealand full-back, G. C. Ladner, and a penalty goal and a field goal to the Sydney side’s five-eighths, J. Carmody, made up the first-half score. A few minutes after the interval the second division prop, M. Waterhouse, made a neat break, and his full-back, P. Berg, backed up to go over for a good try wide out Almost immediately, New Zealand’s clever half-back, G. S. Cooksley, cut through from 45 yards out, and in a grand swerving run, beat the deence to touch down near the corner, levelling the score.at 7-all Play see-sawed for a time and both sides threw the bail about in efforts to penetrate. But it was two more penalty goals by Ladner in the closing stages that gave the New Zealanders their first win. Cooksley, the best player bn the field, and the prop, W. P. Noonan, were most impressive of the New Zealand players.
