PIRIE TO SETTLE
f.V.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. The British distance runner, D. A. G. Pirie, an Olympic silver medallist and former holder of five world records, arrived at Auckland yesterday in the liner Aranda with his family to settle in New Zealand. He said the family's decision to settle here was partly motivated by previous visits and by people like Murray Halberg. “Murray represents New Zealand to me ” he said. A schoolteacher, Pirie expects to take up teaching somewhere in the Auckland area and hopes to do some coaching at the Otahuhu Sports Club. His future plans might in elude some running if Pirie can get a sponsor. He hopes to make an attempt at breaking the record for running across the United States This would involve running about 50 miles a day, he said
Saccer Drawn. —Scotland was held to a 1-1 draw by Northern Ireland in their British soccer championship match at Glasgow yesterday.
