Glamis Lad Sprints Fast At Trentham

"The Press" Special Service

WELLINGTON.

The South Island gallopers, Glamis Lad and Baghdad Note, sprinted keenly at Trentham yesterday in preparation for the second day of the May meeting today.

Several horses sprinted and times were fast, partly because of the firm track and partly because work was done on the inside of the trial grass over slightly less 'than the full distance. The course proper today will provide perfect footing, as it did on Saturday.

Glamis Lad (Dodds) beat Running Scared (Taylor) by six lengths over five furlongs, the last half-mile in 48sec and three furlongs in 35} sec.

The result was not surprising, for Glamis Lad is a well-performed open-class horse and Running Scared is a hurdler.

Glamis Lad had his first run since February when he finished ninth over six furlongs on Saturday. He may do a good deal better over seven today, Baghdad Note (J. Harris) took 47 4-ssec for halt a mile, the last three furlongs in 34 4-ssec. He has done well since he chased Blue Nile all the way in the Miramar mile on Saturday and will meet

him 61b better today, Gay Gabador (Harris) ran the last half-mile of his work in 48sec and broke 36sec for the'last three furlongs. He seems better for his race on Saturday, when he had an indifferent run and blew heavily. He should be more prominent in the Waterloo today. Cresta Dore (Harris) ran the - last three furlongs of his work in 35 4-ssec. Saturday’s performance was not his true form and he should be given another chance in the Khandallah Handicap. The Burridge-trained stablemates, Emir and Tosh, both ran fast sprints, but they are unlikely to start today unless the track was eased by overnight rain.
