CONNOLLY HAS QUICK SUCCESS

(NJT.PuI.-Bcuter—Copyright? LONDON. A. N. Connolly, the Australian test bowler newly recruited by Middlesex, took five wickets for 50 in his first county championship match yesterday.

Connolly started badly in his opening speU. He was noballed for dragging, hit for six by the Essex opener. Ward, and finally taken off after conceding 20 runs without a wicket.

But he quickly made amends with the second new ball, taking four wickets for three runs in one devastating burst

The day’s batting honours went to D. Walsh, of Oxford University, who made the first double century of the season. The 22-year-old Walsh scored 207 against Warwickshire. completing his maiden century in first-class cricket in 270 minutes, and then racing through the next 100 in only 108 minutes. Fastest Century

P. Marner, a Leicestershire all-rounder, hit the fastest century of the season so far in 105 minutes, against Cambridge. His second 50 took just 35 minutes and he was out for 101.

The match between West

Indies and Worcestershire ended in a draw today when bad light cut short the final day’s play here. It ruined any hope of an exciting finish to the tourists' first fixture against a county side after L. S.
