EDUCATION REFORM

Conference Suggestion

(N.Z. Press Association)

WELLINGTON, May 6.

A radical reform in the secondary school public examination system was proposed today at the education, training and research forum of the National Development Conference.

A representative of the Manufacturers* Federation, Mr J. M. Taylor, of Wellington, successfully put forward a recommendation that School Certificate be accredited and the University Entrance examination be mandatory, based on common examination papers largely set by the university. The recommendation was accepted by 24 votes to six and will be forwarded to the full conference for approval later this week.
