“SUBSIDIES NO GAIN”
(N.Z Press Association) ROTORUA, April 30. Subsidies would not mean an increase in the consumption of farming products, said the Minister of Agriculture (Mr Taiboys) at a public meeting at Reporoa, near Rotorua, last night. "In the United States consumption of butter has gone down, and margarine has gone up. It is the same in the Netherlands, one of the greatest dairying countries in the world,” said Mr Taiboys. “In 15 years the dairy industry in the United States will be redundant.”
