Calves Sell Well At Coalgate
Steer calves met a very sound inquiry at the first Coalgate calf •ale yesterday, values for good average lots being $3 a head stronger than at Addington earlier in the week. Although the top steer calves did not make as much as last year, the good average class of calf was little short of last year s values, and in odd cases, fractionally better. The tussockbred calves, in particular, sold well.
Quality was good, most of the calves being in forward condi* tion. They reflected the favourable season that has been experienced in hill country districts in this area. Steer calves sold mainly In the $46 to $53 range. Heifer calf values were much en a par with Addington rates, although the calves offered yesterday carried more condition. The yarding was 635, compared with 500 last year, and consisted of 510 steers and 125 heifers.
