Test Bowler On Charge
(N.Z. Press Assn—Copyright) MELBOURNE.
Grey-haired, and wearing a shabby overcoat, Leslie Fleet-wood-Smith, one pf Australia’s greatest slow bowlers, was charged in a magistrate’s court with vagrancy. “All I want out of life is a meal, sleep and a few beers,” Fleetwood-Smith told police when he was arrested.
The Magistrate, Mr R. J. Kelly, told the famous bowler of the 19305: “I’m sorry to see you here. I don’t know what 1 can do for you.” The hearing was adjourned to April 9, pending a psychiatric report on Fleetwood-Smith. The former cricketer, now aged 60, toured England three times and South Africa once with Australian teams.
