SHOPPING HOURS

Probable Increase

(N.Z. Press Association)

WELLINGTON,

March 20.

There will be four more shopping hours a week if the Arbitration Court approves a Conciliation Council agreement reached last week.

Instead of opening at 8.30 a.m. and closing at 5.30 p.m. shops would run from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., the secretary of the Federation of Shop Assistants Industrial Association of Workers (Mr J. G. Shankie) said tonight. “Workers would still work the 7j hours on four days of the week and 10 hours on the late night,” he said. The agreement was reached in Conciliation Council between the Federation of Master Grocers and chain store groups, he said. But it had to be approved by the Arbitration Court.
