Apprentice Is Disqualified

n! The Washdyke apprentice, J. W. Apes, was disqualified from • working in a racing stable for e three months by the judicial e committee of the Ashburton: Racing Club on Tuesday. r Mr A. J. Mason, the chair- ■ man of the club's judicial com- ;■ mittee. said last evening the r disqualification of Apes arose 0 from a complaint lodged by Mr H. Grigg, a member of the " Ashburton Racing Club. Mr Grigg was disturbed by the manner in which Apesi handled the horse. Rathnally, ' when he was taking it from: fc .the birdcage to the stables / after the running of the Trial Stakes Mr Grigg saw Apes jerk the horse's mouth with the reins and bit and followed him to the 'stables. He asked him his name but Apes refused to give it. Mr Mason said that except £ for Apes refusing to reveal his e name there was no evidence s presented to the committee that Mr Grigg had been abused or s insulted. d Mr Mason said it was possible 1 that Apes did not know who t Mr Grigg was, for although he owned Rathnally the gelding i. was held on lease by the Washa dyke trainer, E. P. Corboy, who s was Apes’s employer. Apes told e the judicial committee he did e not know Mr Grigg. i, Mr Mason said the commit- . tee deliberated for some time e before deciding to disqualify r Apes and the disqualification y had nothing to do with Mr Grigg being a former chairman ■- of the club. a “Apes was given the chance r to apologise to Mr Grigg, but he refused.’’ said Mr Mason.
