(N.Z. Press Assn. —Copyright) ST PETERSBURG (Florida). The New Zealand Davis Cup player, B. E. Fairlie, made a successful start to the Masters tennis tournament yesterday, beating R. Knight (United States), 6-3, 6-2, in the first round.

Nominated.— The Auckland Rugby League Control Board has nominated Dr L. J. Cooney (Auckland) as president of the New Zealand League. He had been president for six years. The election will be held at the league’s annual meeting in Auckland next month.
