The two all-rounders who did most to dismiss Christ’s College for 230 runs yesterday, R. Hadlee and J. Calder, will probably have to bear the brunt of Christchurch Boys’ High School’s attempt to gain a first-innings lead when they resume their unbroken sixth-wicket partnership today.

Failing light, a pitch taking spin and the return of the successful medium-pacer, R. W. Fulton, failed to stop their progress.

Only the opener, D. Dempsey, had earlier given the impression that the College bowling could be played confidently. He hit 12 boundaries, most from flowing drives, and when he was bowled for 63, only 81 runs had come from the bat.

A fine partnership of 132 by Fulton and D. J. Macdonald provided the backbone of the College batting. The more- aggressive Macdonald scored his 76 runs in only 102 minutes, with 12 boundaries.
