Five Died In Plane Crash

The pilot and four passengers died in the Piper Apache aircraft which crashed in the foothills of the Seaward Kaikouras, six miles west of the Clarence River mouth, on Tuesday morning.

The aircraft was on a flight from Christchurch to Wellington. Those killed were

George Edward Healey, aged 42, an agricultural contractor, married with two children, of Tai Tapu.

Brear Warren Boyd-Clark, aged 52, the pilot and a company director, married with one child, of Marsh Road, Southbrook.

Wreckage of the aircraft, owned by Aztec Air, Ltd, was spread over a considerable area. It- was sighted about 4 p.m. on Tuesday from a searching aircraft. An Army doctor, Lieutenant F. E. Bennett, was lowered from a helicopter near the main wreckage, the cabin and tail assembly, at 7.45 p.m. He was joined by a rescue party on foot, at 3.50 a.m. yesterday. The bodies were flown out to the Middle Hill station homestead by helicopter and brought to Christchurch by road.

George Victor Hauschild, aged 46, a driver, married with two children, of Lincoln Highway, Tai Tapu.

Brian Stuart Aitchison, aged 36, a farm manager, married with two children, of Springston.

William Lyall Harris, jun., aged 50, a bus proprietor married with five children, of School Road, Tai Tapu.

The helicopter took the inspector of aircraft accidents, Mr E. F. Harvie, of Wellington, to the crash.
