STRIKE OVER

Ford Men Return

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, March 19.

I The Ford Motor Company’s 23 factories in Britain were in action again today after a strike lasting nearly a month. The stoppage, the worst in the American-owned company’s experience in Britain, caused the production loss of 51,200 vehicles worth £34m. After three days of gruelling talks with management executives, the leaders of the 15 unions in the dispute yesterday advised workers to accept a compromise wage and bonus scheme. The settlement terms revise a £sm pay and productivity package deal, the penalties for wildcat strikes in which caused the stoppage. Ford won the right to reward workers who for a year do not strike, ban overtime or restrict production.

The workers won wage rises of between 30s and 35s a week.
