ARANUI H.S. ROLL

Increase Of 38 This Year

The Aranui High School j roll on March 1 was 1074, an| increase of 38 on last year’s [ figure, the headmaster (Mr[ W. J. A. Brittenden) reported [ to the school’s board of gover- [ nors on Tuesday. The total! was made up of 614 boys and [ 460 girls. The intake of third-form [ pupils was 386 and though | this was a record it empha-j sised the fact that Aranui was a bottom-heavy school, said Mr Brittenden. The upper sixth form had seven students and the lower sixth 65. Mr Brittenden said it was unfortunate that a rumour was circulating in the district to the effect that the school had no upper sixth form. “This is, of course, quite [wrong and while our top form ihas never been as large as I [would hope, and the school [deserves, nevertheless its performance in the university [bursary examination is not ' something of which we should be ashamed," he said.
