CADETS RECEIVE SHIELD

The Victory Challenge Shield, competed for annually by secondary school cadets in the South Island, was yesterday presented to the Christ’s College rifle team by the commander of the Southern Military District (Brigadier D. J. Aitken). Christ’s College scored 2211 points to win last year’s

competition, St Andrew’s College being second with 189, John McGlashan College third with 188, Christchurch Boys’ High School fourth with 187, and King’s High School fifth with 171] points. In 1967 the shield was won by Christchurch Boys’ High School after a four-

year run of success by Christ's College. The centre-piece of the shield is made of copper which came from H.M.S. Victory. The winning team was Corporal J. C. C. Davison (captain), Cadet J. W. Jerram, Corporal R. C. M. Martin, Sea Cadet D. L. J. Rutherford, Corporal G. L. Rutherford, Bandsman

D. W. Millton, Cadet D. K. Wagner, Cadet N. H. Stephens, and Flight Sergeant R. C. Claydon.

The photograph shows Brigadier Aitken, Lieutenant N. S. Heath (the coach), Corporal Jerram, Cadet Stephens, Flight Sergeant Claydon, and Sea Cadet D. L. J. Rutherford.
