Plans For Beef Cattle Contests

M R A. P. O’SHEA, formerly

the Meat Board’s North American representative and before that general secretary of Federated Farmers of New Zealand, will be the guest speaker at the field day held in conjunction with the North Canterbury chiller type beef competition at the beginning of April.

The competition will be at the New Zealand Refrigerating Company’s works at Islington, with the on hoofs judging at the works on March 27 and the hooks and cuts judging on April 1. Entries close on March 21. Advice has . also been received of a competition in South Canterbury, with which it is proposed to hold a beef afternoon at the Canterbury Frozen Meat Company’s Pareora works on Friday, March 28. Entries will be judged on the hoof on Friday, March 21, and then transported to Belfast by courtesy of the Canterbury’ Frozen Meat

Company, judged and the winning six animals cut, and then transported back to Pareora where they, and the other entries as cut sides, will be on display. Sir John Ormond, chairman of the Meat Board, is to be guest speaker on March 28, when it is hoped to have various displays of interest to beef breeders.
