Famine Threat
About 700 Javanese sent to Sumatra as part of the Indonesian Government’s programme to ease the population burden in Java are threatened by famine. The Indonesian Armed Forces’ newspaper reported today that they are suffering from food shortages and malaria, and 10 of them have died since December, when heavy flooding ravaged the area they were given to farm, destroying their rice crop and a number of homes.— Djakarta, Feb. 25.
