Children Guests
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, February 25. No second honeymoon is in store for a young Auckland couple after they reenact their marriage ceremony on Thursday. Mr and Mrs N. J. Murray, of Northcote, were married eight weeks ago in Hamilton. They have decided to restage their wedding for the benefit of the 35 pupils
from the Kingswood school for mentally handicapped children, at which Mrs Murray is a teacher.
The pupils, aged between six and 17, will walk from the school to the little Methodist church, a quarter of a mile away.
“Most of the children have never been guests at a wedding,” Mrs Murray said.
“We want to give them this experience.” She said the children understood that this was not the real wedding and that it was being re-enacted especially for them. The couple will be attended by bridesmaid and bridegroom, and the couple’s parents will be present, as well as all the teachers from the school.
After the wedding a reception will be held and finally Mrs Murray will dress up in her going-away
outfit. Mr Murray, a full-time university student, was quite willing to take part in the scheme, Mrs Murray
said, because he realised that this was important to the children.
