PRAISE FOR TERMS
Scientology Inquiry (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, February 6. Scientology’s world headquarters at East Grinstead, Britain, says New Zealand’s terms of reference for an inquiry into the cult are the only sensible ones ever given. This praise is contained in a statement from the headquarters, issued in Auckland today by the organisation's public relations official (Mr A. Graham). The statement commends the New Zealand Government for “its true protection of human rights.”
In the Melbourne inquiry, it says, hostile witnesses had secret meetings where they were coached on their testimony; and Scientology witnesses were intimidated.
The conclusions were published before friendly witnesses were heard and the final pronouncement, that Scientologists were breaking no law, so one would have to be passed against them, made a farce of justice, the statement says.
