Lamb Supply Upset By Dock Delays
(New Zealand Press Association)
WELLINGTON, January 22.
Delays in handling New Zealand lamb through British docks were deeply disturbing to the Meat Board in view of its efforts this season to ensure that all available supplies were shipped to this key market as quickly as possible, a spokesman for the board said yesterday.
j He was commenting on London reports that delays in unloading had caused stocks of carcases in British stores to run dangerously low. Everything possible had been done this season (which began last October 1) to get greater supplies of lamb to the United Kingdom market. The board’s shipping programme had gone so smoothly
that all available lamb had been sent. At the end of December, new season’s lamb shipped to Britain amounted to 53,675 tons, an increase of 7250 tons on the same period of the previous season. The spokesman confirmed that some butchers in Britain were unable to secure supplies because of dock troubles.
