N.Z. BOYS IN SYDNEY
50 Attending
Camp
The haka performed by the New Zealand contingent of 50 |at the opening of the Boys’ Brigade's third Pan-Austra-lian camp at Stanwell ; Heights, near Sydney, created ; interest among the 700 boys i from Australia and New Guinea who are attending the camp. “We have been called on to give several repeat performances,” said Corporal K. Storer, of Kaiapoi, in a report received in Christchurch last evening. A New Zealand team has been practising for one of the major sports events at the camp—a Rugby match, Australia v. New Zealand. During one of the training runs, a New Zealand boy was injured, the first in the camp. Two of the most popular activities at the camp have been the assault courses and ascents of 200 ft cliffs by rope. Both these activities have been more difficult than those attempted in New Zealand, according to Corporal Storer. “The meals have been be- : low the standard we have I been accustomed to at the 1 Canterbury Battalion's camp | at Waipara," said Lieutenant ID. J. McClure, of Christchurch. He has been assistant cook at Waipara for two I years. “All the meals are prepared by outside caterers and require no preparation or cooking by the boys,” he said. By the time the camp ends all the New Zealand boys will have seen Sydney by day and night. They will also visit a steelworks, Lion Park, and a coalmine. All the trips involve a full day away from 1 the camp.
