N.Z. schools tournament
r THE first South Island "*■ indoor basketball tournament for girls’ secondary school teams will be held in Christchurch in the first week of the May school holidays. The winner of this tournament will be invited to play the winner of a North Island tournament in what will amount to a New Zealand championship final. The match between the North and South Island champions will be played at Rotorua at the end of the North Island tournament, which will be held there in August. The New Zealand Women’s Basketball Association has approved the holding of the South Island tournament, which will be organised by the Canterbury Women's Basketball Association. All South Island secon-
dary schools with girl pupils will be invited to enter the tournament. The Canterbury association will be holding another summer tournament on Monday evenings from January 20 to March 24. This competition will cater for both women’s and men’s teams on a similar basis to that of last season. The competitions will be limited to a total entry of 22 teams. Arrangements have been made for the women’s winter competitions to begin on Monday, April 14, and Wednesday, April 16. The competition will last for 19 weeks. Mrs S. Rennell and Mr L. Rollinson have been appointed delegates to represent the Canterbury Women's Association at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Women’s Association in Wellington on March 29.
