RIOTS IN IRELAND
Police Force Increased
(N.Z P A.-Reuter —Copyright) BELFAST, Jan. 7. The Northern Ireland Government is strengthening its police force of 3000 men to cope with the riots between Protestant extremists and the Roman Catholic minority. The decision was taken last night at an emergency Cabinet meeting after a week
of rioting arising from a civil rights protest march bystudents from Belfast to Northern Ireland's second | citv. Londonderry. There, Roman Catholic 'families living in a bogside I district have organised vigi lante street patrols armed with clubs and sticks, and set up barricades to protect themselves against what they describe as “a police menace.” They allege “terrorism” by the police in Londonderry since the brawls of last Friday.
