Congress Doubles President’s Salary

WASHINGTON, January 7. Congress has agreed to double the President’s salary from SUSI 00,000 to SUS2OO,OOO, with effect from the inauguration of Presidentelect Richard Nixon.

Congressman H. R. Gross(Republican, Iowa) said theincrease was “a door-opener - to a round of outlandish payboosts for Congressmen, senior officials and all Government employees, that will cost about s3ooom a year.” He pressed for a roll call, but only half a dozen members stood in his support.
