Vegetable And Fruit Prices
All fruit sold well and prices for most vegetables were reasonable at the Christchurch fruit and produce markets yesterday. Almost all prices were down on the pre-Christmas auctions. Plums were plentiful, the dessert variety selling at $1 to $2.50 a case, compared with $2.65 to $5.80. The first of the new season’s pumpkins were the Warren squash, which sold at $2.50 a 501 b case. The official range of produce prices supplied by the Christchurch Fruit and Vegetable Wholesalers’ Association is: Marrows.—soc to 80c a case. Silver Beet.—soc to $1 a case. Beetroot.—soc to $1 a case. Cabbages.—From 40c a case. Carrots. —From $3 a case. Cauliflowers.—2oc to 60c a case. Onions.—s2.so to $4.50 a sugar bag. Potatoes.—sl.2o to $l.BO a case. Kumcras.—To 80c a sugar bag. Spring Onions.—To 50c a dozen bunches. Radishes.—2oc to 50c a dozen bunches. Parsley.—loc a bunch. Lettuces.—loc to 80c a case. French Beans. —To 20c per lb. Runner Beans. —To 25c per lb. Cucumbers.—To $1.40 a case. Tomatoes.—loc to 18c per lb. Peaches.—Boc to $1.50 a case; 60c to $1.50 a tray. Cooking Plums.—6oc a case. Apricots.—sl to $4 a case; $1 to $2 a tray.
